Works of art are of an infinite solitude, and no means of approach is so useless as criticism. Only love can touch and hold them and be fair to them.

PLEIN AIR PAINTING WITH VICTORIA BRZUSTOWICZ AND COLETTE SAVAGE

In this two-day class we’ll explore the joy of painting outside. If you’ve ever wanted to try painting outdoors but were nervous about what to expect or how to prepare, this is your chance to learn all about it from two experienced plein air painters!

We’ll meet at 5:00 pm in the upstairs classroom at the Art Stop for our first class on Monday, June 3. We’ll discuss gear, best practices, and what to expect while painting outside in the public eye so that you’ll feel prepared when you head out to paint.

During our second class (5:00 on Monday, June 10) you’ll have the opportunity to set up your easel and work on a painting at a predetermined outdoor location along with your instructors and fellow students. The rain-date in case of inclement weather is June 17. All skill levels and all mediums are welcome.

Please call the Art Stop at (585) 872-5710 to register and for questions.

Intro to Gouache Painting at Flower City Arts Center

Gouache is a water-based, opaque, pigment-rich medium. The ability to layer light over dark makes it as flexible as acrylics and oils, and yet it can be used like watercolor in transparent layers. This course is an introduction to materials, color mixing, and paint handling, with an emphasis on gouache’s painterly qualities. Each class will include a demo and plenty of time for painting. Storing and framing of gouache paintings will also be covered. A suggested materials list will be supplied prior to the first class.
