Sunday morning I took a short but taxing hike to paint the beaver pond on the back side of Gannett Hill in South Bristol. So sad to see the dam had burst last month in heavy rains and all that is left is mudflats. I hope it is rebuilt in time. And then the challenge was hiking out with a wet oil painting in my hands!
Here is my plein air study of peonies painted yesterday evening in the most lovely of gardens. Pastel, 7.5 x 10.
Today I’m dropping off my 12x12 oil “Outrider” for the juried show Horse Power which will open June 6 with a reception from 3-6 pm @mainstreetarts in Clifton Springs. I’ll also teach a two-session workshop on drawing horses from life in conjunction with this show. The workshop will take place at Finger Lakes Thoroughbred Adoption Program’s barn in Farmington with plenty of beautiful horses to sketch!. #horsepower
Catching up on posts. These are pieces created as demos for different oil painting classes. The gully is 10x14 and the little tree is 6x9. I’ll be starting a new daytime oil painting class on June 1 @artstopllc It will run 4 Mondays in June from 11 to 1.
I made willow charcoal today! I still have some finessing left to go but I love the velvety black marks. The crumbly pieces will get ground up to make ink. Happy-happy!
Very pleased to be able to share that my painting “Garden Buddha” was accepted into the Pastel Society of Maine’s open show. The link to the exhibit is on their website. There is some amazing artwork and I am happy to be included!
Yesterday, I hung my solo exhibition at the Little Cafe Gallery (thank you Zanne Brunner and Kirt Lapham for making it go so smoothly.). Stop by the Little through May 26. The reception will be Sunday May 17 from 2-4. I hope you can stop by!
Now’s the perfect time to learn the ins and outs of painting outdoors with two experienced plein air painters and instructors. Register through West Irondequoit Community Education to join in this fun three-morning Workshop. LMK if you have questions! @colettesavage.artist
A beautiful morning painting at #durandeastmanarboretum with @rocpleinair The breeze was strong but the temperature was warm and comfortable for outdoor painting. This is my 16x12 pastel and a photo of the view. Everything felt so fragile and transitory — I know the weather will be cold and nasty for the next few days and few of these blossoms will survive.
Another cool and breezy plein air experience, today at Mt Hope Cemetery to paint the daffodil project. Again, I lasted a little over an hour. This is my pastel on homemade surface 9x6. @mthopecemetery painting with @colettesavage.artist Warmer days are coming eventually and inevitably.
